Boats being transported for Bond 24

It was let slip by the logistics company working for 007 that they were transporting some precious cargo indeed. The following photo was posted to the FreightExEurope Twitter account with the caption:

Bond Boats transported The characteristic mountains indicate the photo was taken on location in Austria, but is not clear whether the boats are arriving or departing, whether this is some elaborate prop worked up by the art department, or how many of them will be used in the film.

Bond 24 casting news: Lea Seydoux and Christopher Waltz

Lea SeydouxJames Bond 24 appears to have some casting news, thanks to The Daily Mail. Oscar-winning German-Austrian actor, Christopher Waltz is said to play a major ‘nemesis’ to Bond in the new James Bond movie.

Waltz is famed for his work with Quentin Tarantino in both Django Unchained (2012) and Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Writes Baz Bamigboye, the Mail reporter who got this scoop:

I am told that the part is a complex one. ‘It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both,’ a person who has knowledge of the screenplay told me.

It is not clear how many people Bamigboye relies on inside the EON production, but he has a good track record of leaking juicy details before the Bond producers would have them known.

Other insiders quoted by the paper give a vague sense that the part could be as memorable as Bond’s archvillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. But all of this is just speculation. Chiwetel Ejiofor was also understood to have been in talks. The Wrap claims that Ejiofor walked away from the Bond offer and that Waltz is taking the same part. If so, they clearly were not looking to typecast.

In an earlier exposé, Bamigboye also outed Lea Seydoux as one of Bond’s latest lady friends. She is expected to take the part that was originally scripted for a Scandinavian lady. Seydoux is known for the French-language Blue Is the Warmest Colour but might be more familiar to Anglo audiences as assassin Sabine Moreau in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Little is known about her character as yet.

Bond 24 Pre-production forges ahead in Austria

ObertilliachAlthough it is still understood that Bond 24 will shoot in streets of Rome, more obvious activity and evidence of 007’s imminent arrival is apparent in Austria.

The small towns of Obertilliach and Altaussee are readying for Bond. It is presumed that the production could spend a good part of the winter in Austria, with shooting dates booked from January 5.

A wooden construction has been assembled in Obertilliach and it is understood it will be destroyed as part of the shot for this 24th James Bond movie.

Meanwhile the crew have their eye on a lakefront log cabin named Jagdhaus in Altaussee.

Fans can expect some winter action, with the latest local reports indicating Sölden ski area has been closed for the production. Sölden is about 150 miles from Obertilliach.

James Bond 24 could be bound for Italy

According to rumours at the Italian James Bond fan club Bond 24 could be shooting in Italy, more specifically, in a sequence centred around Rome’s Quattro Fontane.

Quattro Fontane

They also report that the title might be Devil May Care. Although this is highly unlikely as EON Productions have never borrowed a 007 film title from an Ian Fleming Publications continuation novel. The title rumor seems traceable to this website whereon it explains that Cinecittà studios in Rome is being considered. Perhaps with delays in production and the introduction of Purvis and Wade to the writing team Pinewood can no longer accommodate the 007 adventure? If the booking is no longer valid and shooting is delayed, Bond might just be looking for a new home.

Sam Mendes comments on his continued relationship with James Bond

Sam Mendes comments on his continued relationship with James Bond

Sam Mendes the director of Skyfall and the upcoming Bond 24 has spoken to the media about his work on the Bond franchise. He compared his varied of art house and alternative film production to the more formulaic 007 adventure, saying: “I spent a long time doing movies that defied easy categorisation, but with Bond, it was very clear what was demanded. With Bond you have to know everything Bond has done before. You can’t repeat it. You’re not going to reinvent the wheel.”

He rightly calls the franchise “timeless” but emphasises that it all starts with the script.

For me, so much of it is about script. Because that’s the building of the boat. Once the boat goes on the current, it’s gone. And if there’s a hole in the boat, you’re fucked. So you have to make sure there’s no holes in the boat. That’s what we’re doing at the moment.

Skyfall had a extended scripting process forced upon the production team by the financial situation of their studio, MGM. Mendes is obviously committed to recreating a similar quality picture.

Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to polish Bond 24

The writing duo, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, who bowed out of the Bond franchise after the successful Skyfall are rumored to have returned to the franchise to add some punch to John Logan’s script.

The news emerges from Baz Bamigboye at the Daily Mail, who predicted a number of James Bond news and rumors accurately back when Skyfall was only in pre-production. So, although there has been nothing official, Bamigboye has an excellent track record.

It is also not a surprise that John Logan is not expected to finish this shooting script alone. A number of James Bond films have been started by one writer only to be polished by another. Logan himself served as second fiddle to Purvis and Wade’s Skyfall, and before him, the duo’s scripts were polished by Paul Haggis. It is understood that the story is still an original one from Logan but that Purvis and Wade are on board to give it a review.

John Logan close to completing first draft of Bond 24

The screenwriter who came on board the 007 franchise along with his colleague Sam Mendes with Skyfall is almost ready to submit a draft. Says the writer in a recent interview:

“Right now the first draft [of Bond 24] is almost done, I’m terrifically excited about it! I’ve been working very closely with Sam Mendes, and it’s been joyous to pick up from our work on Skyfall and just continue on with the storytelling.”

As readers will note, Logan is pretty explicit that it will pick up where Skyfall left. Does this just allude to the new M and Moneypenny who joined the cast? Does this mean that Judi “M” Dench’s ghost may be weighing down 007 for a few more adventures? What else springs to mind?

He confirmed, also, that filming on James Bond 24 would start in October this year. He refused to comment on Blofeld and Quantum rumors, although the Quantum arc has been left thoroughly open. It has been rumored in the past that Logan was on board for two adventures that could well be back to back outings. Logan refused to comment, saying, let him get on with Bond 24 before addressing Bond 25. Bond 25 is the last of the current contract Craig has with Bond’s producers.

Ralph Fiennes says Bond 24 starts shooting in October

The British actor hired to replace Dame Judi Dench as “M” in the Bond films says that he is expecting shooting to start on the new 007 adventure, currently dubbed Bond 24, in October 2014. The film is scheduled for a release in late 2015. Skyfall started production 11 months before its release date, with filming starting in November 2011 and its premiere held in London in October 2012.

As well as letting slip the shooting schedule, Fiennes tells MTV that he is in the dark about the plotting:

“I haven’t read a script yet, so I can’t tell you much. They’d probably swear me to secrecy anyway.”

Roger Deakins will not be back for Bond 24

The fantastic cinematographer that added an extra layer of sophistication to Skyfall has regrettably confirmed he wont be working on Bond 24. In February 2014 he told Thompson on Hollywood that he would not be back for the film. He added that Sam Mendes and John Logan, who would be returning from Skyfall, had particular contributions to make to the 24th instalment in the franchise, but that he didn’t “know what else I could do with it, really”.

The news didn’t really make much of a splash until, several days later, Kristopher Tapley tweeted that he had had dinner with Deakins and heard the news firsthand. “At dinner with Deakins last night I learned some news that makes me sad: He won’t be shooting the next Bond,” tweeded the hifix reporter.
